Come to Stratford early and stay late! Construction delays may be significant in summer 2019 so be sure not to miss out on any fun!

Hwy 6 to Embro/401: Replacement of large culvert Aug-Nov

Expect delays but road will not be closed. Hwy 7 detour is suggested as above, if there is an overlap.

Hwy 8 between Stratford and Shakespeare: In progress

Beginning in early June, stretches of this road between the west end of Shakespeare and the east end of Stratford will be reduced on weekdays to a single lane, with flag people controlling traffic in both directions. Delays may be lengthy, so please allow additional time for your trip. (Both lanes are expected to be open on evenings and weekends.)

Artist’s Statement  -   Victoria Sanderson

"There is something exciting, but mysterious about working with warm glass. I always anticipate how the stacked layers might merge and change in a firing, and yet, somehow they always turn out differently than I expect. I love the discovery of opening my kiln to see how the layers of glass blend and recreate themselves into pieces of art, each one individual and unique."

[Torrie’s Glass Studio is open daily by chance or appointment.]

For more than ten years Torrie Sanderson has been fascinated by the process of melting glass in a kiln, and playing with glass rods in a propane and oxygen torch flame to make the molten glass stretch like taffy or twist like a candy cane. She happily manipulates colour, light, glass, wire, heat and fire to create large and small window and garden decor pieces, unique plates, trays and tableware, and pendants that are tiny pieces of wearable art.

Beginning with a plain piece of clear glass, she cuts and layers other pieces onto it, then fires it in her kiln, sometimes up to five times, so the layers fuse together to get the required effect. This flat piece is then prepared for hanging on a wall or in a window, placed in a wrought iron stand, or mounted in stone. Sometimes the finished flat base is laid over a ceramic mold and slumped in another firing to create a bowl, plate or tray, or free-standing waves for a unique tablescape.

Torrie’s affinity for symmetry, texture, geometric shapes, bright colors, simplicity & rhythmic patterns is readily apparent in the pieces that she creates. Her designs are evolving as she perfects new techniques.

Torrie S Designs is located at the Mornington Rose Bed and Breakfast in the heart of beautiful Stratford, Ontario, home of the world renown Stratford Festival.  To visit the studio or to book a special stay, visit the website at or
